Piano Man

Despite having learnt to play the piano from a very young age I've always loved sitting down and listening to other people play more than listening to myself! I went quite far with music but always had a real fear of performing in front of people. I never overcame that and even though I had started to play in bars etc, the fear of making mistakes never went away. The hands on this piano belong to a the husband of a family friend. He was a very reclusive character who rarely went out but had perfected the most incredible catalogue of music. His room was full of piles of sheet music and I could pick any of it out and he would play. I sat speechless almost as, from inside his dining room, this man played the Rachmaninov pieces I had picked out with such incredible ability and beauty. An amazing treat!

    1. Thanks a lot for the comment Damon its appreciated! I luckily had my camera with me and the only light in the room on was a tungsten light over the music. I thought it was a great potential and grabbed about 5 frames. This one turned out to be my favourite and then a bit of post production finished it off.

    1. Pleased that you like this and the story also. It means a lot to me that you can feel some emotion from my post!! :)

    1. It was definitely a very soulful moment and great opportunity. Thankfully I had a camera with me and managed to get some pictures! Thanks for commenting on this :)

    1. Each time I look at this picture I feel like listening to some piano music (Clair de Lune by Debussy works well with this picture!!! :)

    1. Hey thanks so much for your comment and please accept my apologies, I was just checking through my older posts and found I had missed this when you posted it originally. I do enjoy writing but really lack the patience to keep at it for long.
I’m really grateful that you like this picture and story!! :)

  1. This is very striking! I love the way the edges are darker with the light centred on the hands and the keys. The title of this kind of made me jump, because I have a short story saved as a draft at the moment, going up in a few days, called Piano Man!! It’s about someone I met when I was 19. And it is amazing how anyone can not only play these complicated pieces, but also when they have it all in their head, how on earth do they remember it all!?

      1. Wow – this is stunning! Like and angel playing on the piano! And I’m not even into angels, but I can’t think how else to describe her performance, so elegant! But I suspect in reality there is a lot of hours of really hard practice behind all that elegance. I’m always on the lookout for talented piano people on You Tube, and she is just perfect! I have some music pages on my blog, just for entertainment, and I will probably share that to the classical page, so thank you so much for that!
